Privacy Policy

How Image Shed keeps image processing local and handles limited service request data.

Effective July 24, 2026

At a glance

Image Shed is a local-first image utility. Images you open, process, preview, or save to the Library are handled on your device and are not uploaded to Image Shed. There are no Image Shed accounts, payments, ads, or analytics in the current service.

Scope and controller

This Privacy Policy applies to the Image Shed website and installable web app (collectively, the "Service"). Image Shed is the controller of the limited server-request information described below. It is not the controller of files and settings that remain solely under your control in browser storage.

This policy does not govern sites you choose to visit through external links. Those sites have their own privacy practices.

What stays on your device

The Service may process or store the following locally:

  • Source and output images. Files you select, paste, drag in, share to the installed app, process, preview, download, or save to the Library.
  • Library information. Saved image bytes and associated details such as filenames, file types, sizes, processing mode, output format, and save time.
  • Preferences. Library behavior, selected background-removal model, batch limit, and feature toggles.
  • Software and model caches. App-shell files, codecs, and downloaded background-removal model files used for offline or repeated use.
  • Diagnostics. A short in-memory event log. If you choose to create a diagnostic report, Image Shed shows you the redacted text before you download it. The report is not sent anywhere by the Service.

Browser storage is controlled by your browser and device. Other people with access to the same browser profile may be able to access locally saved items.

What reaches the network

Using any website creates ordinary network requests. Those requests may include:

  • Hosting requests. IP address, request time, requested path, response status, browser or device information, referring page, and security signals may be received by the static hosting and network provider when it delivers the Service.
  • Model and runtime downloads. Background removal uses machine-learning model files and a processing runtime. Your browser requests these from Image Shed through a same-origin /hf route, and the hosting proxy then retrieves the model files from Hugging Face. On supported desktop devices these downloads (up to about 330 MB) begin automatically a short time after the page loads, so the feature is ready on first use. You can turn this background download off under Advanced settings, in which case the files are fetched only when a feature first needs them. Your images and filenames are not included in these requests.
  • External links. If you follow a link to Hugging Face or another site, that site receives the normal information associated with your visit.

Image Shed does not operate an image-upload API. It does not intentionally receive image contents, filenames, Library records, preferences, or diagnostic exports from the app.

How information is used

Limited network information may be processed to:

  • deliver the pages, code, fonts, codecs, and model files you request;
  • maintain availability, diagnose faults, and protect the Service from abuse; and
  • comply with legal obligations and enforce the Terms of Service.

Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, these activities rely on providing the Service at your request, the legitimate interests in operating and securing it, and legal obligations where applicable. Image Shed does not use request data for advertising or to build profiles about you.

When information is disclosed

Information may be disclosed only in these limited circumstances:

  • Service providers. Hosting, content-delivery, and model-hosting providers process request information to provide their services.
  • Legal and safety reasons. Information may be preserved or disclosed if reasonably necessary to comply with law, legal process, or valid government requests; protect rights, safety, and security; or investigate abuse.
  • Organizational change. Relevant records may transfer as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of the Service, subject to this policy and applicable law.

Image Shed does not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or disclose it to data brokers. It has not done so in the preceding 12 months.

Storage and retention

Local files and preferences remain until you remove them, clear the Library or model cache, clear the site's browser data, uninstall the app, or your browser evicts them. Shared-to-app files may briefly enter a same-device browser cache while being handed to an open or newly launched Image Shed window.

Hosting and model providers set their own retention periods for request logs. Image Shed does not use those provider logs as a user database and keeps any operator-accessible records only as long as reasonably needed for security, operations, legal compliance, or dispute resolution.

Your choices and rights

You can control local data directly:

  • remove individual Library items or use "Clear library";
  • delete cached background-removal models in Settings;
  • use your browser's site-data controls to remove all local storage and caches.

Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to know, access, correct, delete, or restrict personal data; object to or opt out of certain processing; receive portable data; withdraw consent; appeal a decision; or complain to a regulator. Image Shed will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.

Because the Service has no accounts and does not receive your local files, it normally cannot identify you or retrieve local data for you.

Cookies and tracking

The current Service does not set advertising or analytics cookies and does not track your activity over time across unrelated services. Browser storage and service-worker caches support preferences, saved results, installation, and offline operation; they are not used for advertising.

Because Image Shed does not sell or share personal information for targeted advertising, it does not provide a separate "Do Not Sell or Share" control. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals do not change the Service's behavior because cross-site tracking is not performed.

Security

Local processing reduces exposure by keeping image content off Image Shed's servers. The Service also uses integrity checks for downloaded model files and redacts likely filenames, paths, precise dimensions, and URL details from downloadable diagnostics. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, however. Keep your browser and operating system updated and protect access to your device and browser profile.

Children

The Service is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children under 13. Image Shed does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

International processing

Hosting and model-delivery providers may process request information in countries other than yours. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Where required, the relevant provider or operator uses an approved transfer mechanism and safeguards for that processing.

Changes

Material changes will be posted on this page with a revised effective date and, when appropriate, a more prominent in-product notice. Continued use after a change means the revised policy applies to later activity.
