Three starting actions

Choose the result you need.

Start with the main change you want, then add a compatible step to build a multi-step result in one run.

01

Change file type

Create JPEG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF copies. Quality controls appear only when the chosen file type supports them.

02

Make files smaller

Reduce JPEG, WebP, and AVIF file sizes while keeping each file type the same. PNG files are clearly marked as not included.

One image or a full batch

Select exactly what should change.

Every added image starts selected. Process the full batch or narrow the selection first; the configured pipeline and settings apply to every included image.

How Image Shed works

From original to download in three steps.

  1. 1

    Add images

Choose files, drop them in, or paste from your clipboard. Valid files stay selected by default.

  2. 2

    Choose and configure

Pick a starting action, add compatible steps if needed, adjust the settings, and include the whole batch or only selected images.

  3. 3

    Process and download

See every result, retry a failed item, and save the files you want.

Supported image formats

Common formats in. Flexible formats out.

JPEG

A widely supported choice for photographs and everyday sharing.

PNG

Useful for transparency, screenshots, logos, and crisp graphic edges.

WebP

A modern web format that supports transparency and flexible compression.

AVIF

A modern format for compact photographic images when browser support fits your audience.

HEIC files can be opened when your browser provides a compatible decoder.

Preview and local library

Check the result before you save it.

Compare the source and result on the same aligned image. Move the divider to inspect the edges, then download when it looks right.

  • Original images stay unchanged
  • Download one result or a completed batch
  • Reprocess a result with different settings

Local by design

Your images stay on your device.

Image editing happens on your device. Image Shed does not upload your source images or finished files to its servers.

Local processing

File conversion, compression, previews, and finished results are handled in your browser.

Works again offline

Supported workflows can be reused offline after the app files, required codecs, and any selected background model have downloaded.

Clear limits

The default batch limit is 100 images at up to 50 MB each. Advanced settings can raise the batch limit to 500. Unusually large images may be declined when their pixel dimensions exceed what the browser can safely process.

Frequently asked questions

Before you begin.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Source images and processed outputs remain on your device.

Can I process a batch?

Yes. Start with up to 100 images and adjust the batch limit from 1 to 500 in Advanced settings.

Can Image Shed compress PNG files?

Not with the adjustable quality workflow. Change a PNG to WebP or AVIF when you need a much smaller file.

Does background removal work everywhere?

It is available on compatible desktop devices. The best-detail option needs a WebGPU-capable device; the quick, compatible option works more broadly, including without WebGPU.

Can I use Image Shed offline?

Supported workflows can be reused after the required app files, codecs, and selected background model have been downloaded on this device.
